Colonial Gingerbread
Mary Birt
1 CUP Molasses
1/2 CUP Butter or Lard
1/2 CUP Sugar
1 CUP Water - boiling
1 TSP Soda - dissolve in above water
1 CUP Walnuts -  chopped (Option)
1 CUP Raisins - chopped-boiled to tender-drained (Option)
1 TSP Cinnamon
1 TSP Ginger
2 1/2 CUP Flour
2 Eggs - beaten

In a large bowl, mix first three items, pour water/soda over top and stir well - cool.

Add remaining items and mix.

Bake at 350F for 45 to 50 minutes.
